Energy
Congressman Boswell believes that in order to meet America's energy needs in the 21st century and reduce our country's dependence on unfriendly, foreign oil, we must continue to invest in and grow our diverse domestic energy industry. Renewable, homegrown energy sources such as biofuels, wind, and water are important to creating jobs, supporting rural communities, and reviving our economy.
Iowa is a leader in the renewable energy industry and Boswell has fought to ensure that it remains a top producer of these homegrown fuels. That is why he introduced the Renewable Pipeline Act to allow energy companies to receive a federal loan guarantee to construct a pipeline that will transport ethanol and other biofuels from the Midwest to the East Coast. This will increase the demand for Iowa's renewable fuels and create jobs in the process. Boswell will continue to support financial incentives that inspire innovation in Iowa's renewable fuel industry.
Achieving energy independence is crucial for our economic and national security. Iowa already plays a large role in reducing our country's bondage to OPEC, but Boswell knows that we must do more. Our country continues to pay large subsidies to big oil companies that continually post yearly billion-dollar profits. Boswell is extremely frustrated with Congress for continuing to give billions in subsides to foreign oil companies while letting domestic energy tax credits to expire. Boswell believes that dollars spent on foreign oil subsidies would be better spent improving our own domestic energy industry by supporting farmers who produce renewable fuels, and updating our infrastructure to transport and distribute these energy sources.
Boswell has fought for over 30 years to make Iowa a leader in domestic energy production and to break the country's bondage to OPEC. He will continue to support a well-rounded energy policy that puts Iowans and Americans first by growing our domestic energy industry and promoting affordable, clean, alternative energy sources.
