Congressman Boswell is committed to promoting long-term economic growth in a fiscally responsible way. Boswell supports tax cuts for Iowa’s working men and women, but not risky schemes that raid Social Security and Medicare to put more money in the hands of the wealthy.

Boswell voted to increase the minimum wage, the first increase in more than a decade. Boswell has also tirelessly fought to expand Iowa’s alternative energy industry in order to create good paying, quality jobs for Iowa’s workers and lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

Congressman Boswell has used his seniority and influence on the Transportation Committee to direct much needed federal assistance to strengthen Iowa’s infrastructure in order to relieve congestion, improve safety, increase commerce, and create good paying, quality jobs for Iowa’s workforce. Boswell is also a strong advocate for trails and other developments that increase the quality of life for Iowans across the Third Congressional District, and is a strong advocate for alternative modes of transportation such as public transit and cycling.

Congressman Boswell understands that small businesses are the backbone of Iowa’s economy. Boswell has voted to expand federal contracting opportunities for small businesses, support veteran-owned as well as women-owned small businesses, and assist small businesses become more energy efficient. He also understands the struggle small businesses face with the rising costs of healthcare and has introduced a bill to provide small businesses a refundable tax credit for beginning to offer health insurance for their employees.

Congressman Boswell also believes that in order to have a strong and vibrant economy, corporations and corporate executives must be held responsible for their actions. Boswell has voted for corporate responsibility legislation that created a public accounting regulatory board, strengthened corporate audit committees, increased the SEC’s authority and funding, and imposed criminal penalties on CEOs who falsify financial reports.
