SEIU Local 199 Members Endorse Cong. Leonard Boswell

President Cathy Singer-Glasson says: "I am proud to stand behind Congressman Boswell"

Nurses, childcare workers, school custodians and other service workers announced today their endorsement of Congressman Leonard Boswell for U.S. House of Representatives, calling him the best and most experienced candidate to represent Iowa's third district. Congressman Boswell has represented hardworking Iowans for six terms as a member of the U.S. House and maintained a 94 percent voting record from the SEIU in 2007.

When the SEIU Local 199 set out to organize the health care workers at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Congressman Boswell played a critical role in assuring its needs were met. Boswell has been and continues to be a wonderful advocate for the union's membership and for organized labor throughout the state of Iowa. "His wisdom and dedication was crucial to our organizing drive at Broadlawns, we wouldn't have accomplished what we did without the Congressman's help. He understood that we, as nurses, wanted a voice and strength so that we can give the best possible care to Polk Country residents," said Sandy Doerring, nurse at Broadlawns Medical Center.

The SEIU Local 199 represents 5,000 workers in Iowa and is a part of the fastest growing union in North America. The International Union represents 1.9 million members, with more health care workers than any other union.

Cathy Singer-Glasson, registered nurse and President of the SEIU Local 199, said "Congressman Boswell helped make sure that SCHIP, or HAWK-I in Iowa, received enough funding to take care of kids across the nation. Our members trust him to be a strong leader on Health Care and Education. Year in and year out, Congressman Boswell proves that he understands the issues that matter most to working class Iowans, and on behalf of SEIU Local 199, I am proud to stand behind Congressman Boswell."
